Gestures & Hotkeys

Supercharge your app switching with advanced trackpad gestures and custom hotkey bindings.

While keyboard shortcuts are the fastest way to switch apps for many users, CmdTab offers robust support for pointing devices, allowing you to seamlessly integrate app switching into your physical workflow.

Trackpad Gestures

CmdTab supports fluid, continuous tracking on Apple Magic Trackpads and built-in MacBook trackpads.

  • Three-Finger Swipe: Swipe left or right with three fingers to instantly invoke the switcher and scrub through your open applications. Release your fingers to select the highlighted app.
  • Pinch to Quit: While hovering over an application preview in the switcher, perform a pinch-in gesture to instantly force quit the application.

Mouse Support

If you use a Magic Mouse or a third-party mouse with a scroll wheel:

  • Scroll to Switch: Hold your activation modifier (e.g., Command) and scroll the wheel to cycle through apps.
  • Middle Click: Middle-click an app preview in the switcher to hide (Command+H) the application.

Advanced Hotkeys

Beyond the standard Command+Tab, CmdTab allows you to bind specific actions to global hotkeys:

  • Switch to Last App: Bind a shortcut (e.g., Option+Space) to instantly toggle between your two most recently used applications without bringing up the UI.
  • Window Level Switching: Bind a secondary shortcut (e.g., Command+`) to switch between individual windows of the currently active application.
