Menu Bar Controls

Activating Coffee instantly, using timer presets, and customizing the menu bar icon.

Coffee is designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. It has no main window or dock icon; its entire interface lives inside your macOS menu bar.

Quick Toggle

The primary way to interact with Coffee is by clicking its icon in the menu bar.

  • Left Click: Instantly toggles Coffee on or off. The icon will change to indicate its state (an empty cup when off, a full steaming cup when on).
  • Right Click (or Control+Click): Opens the expanded menu, giving you access to presets, settings, and timers.

Timer Presets

Often, you don't want your Mac awake forever—you just need it awake for the duration of a specific task. By right-clicking the Coffee icon, you can quickly access duration presets:

  • 15 Minutes
  • 30 Minutes
  • 1 Hour
  • 2 Hours

When you select a preset, Coffee will keep your Mac awake for that exact duration. Once the timer expires, Coffee turns itself off automatically.

Custom Countdown Timers

If the presets don't match your needs, you can set a custom countdown:

  1. Right-click the Coffee menu bar icon.
  2. Select Custom Timer...
  3. Enter the exact hours and minutes you need.
  4. Click Start.

While a timer is active, hovering your mouse over the Coffee icon will display a tooltip showing exactly how much time is remaining.
