Keeping your Mac awake indefinitely is incredibly useful, but it comes with a risk: if you forget to turn Coffee off, your MacBook will stay awake in your bag and completely drain its battery. To prevent this, Coffee includes robust battery safeguard features.
Plugged-In Only Mode
For most users, this is the recommended setting. When Plugged-In Only Mode is enabled:
- Coffee will function normally as long as your MacBook is connected to a power adapter.
- The moment you unplug your MacBook, Coffee will automatically deactivate itself, allowing macOS to return to its normal sleep schedule.
- If you plug your MacBook back in, Coffee will automatically resume its previous state.
Low Battery Auto-Disable
If you need to use Coffee while on battery power, you can configure a safety threshold in the settings (e.g., 20%).
- Navigate to Settings > Battery.
- Enable Deactivate when battery falls below....
- Use the slider to set your threshold (between 5% and 50%).
When your battery hits this threshold, Coffee will immediately disable itself, and macOS will put your machine to sleep, saving your remaining battery life so you don't lose any unsaved work.
